WE NEED A BALANCE

The physical world that we see every day is a manifestation of the spiritual world. Jesus used physical stories called parables to teach us spiritual lessons. Jesus said; “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:4,5). Just like in the physical world we need to eat and drink to survive. Well our Spirits also need to be fed by reading and drinking in, and really absorbing God’s Word in our spirits, so we can grow spiritually. “as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: ”(I Peter 2:2).

As we grow in the spirit we can start eating different foods besides just milk, just like a baby does when he grows older. The Book of John (which is still my favorite) is like the milk of the Word, and the Book of Revelations is like the meat or the steak of the Word for people who are not newborn babes anymore. We also need to exercise in the physical to stay in good shape to survive and grow. This is like it is in the spirit. Spiritual exercise is like witnessing and helping others to know Jesus, and exercising our spiritual muscles by sharing our faith with others, like the Bible tells us too. We are not supposed to live to eat, but to eat to live, but there is also a balance to that saying. “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” (Psalm 34:8) The Lord loves you so much that he made good tasting food for you to enjoy. Just look at a strawberry, it looks so pretty and even desirable, and tastes so good. God didn’t have to make a strawberry for us, but he did to show us his love. He just wants us to be thankful for his wonderful creation, and to enjoy it, and love him, and to help others to do the same, by knowing him, the creator, by coming to him through Jesus Christ his Only Begotten Son. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6). You can’t survive spiritually on just a little teaspoon of food every Sunday morning. You need to eat spiritually a well balanced meal from the word for your spirit everyday. So if you are feeling sluggish and run down spiritually maybe it is because you haven’t been feeding your spirit rightly, or exercising properly. You also need proper rest. “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.”(Psalm 127:2). This is like in the spirit taking prayer time and finding that rest and peace that Jesus gives us for our spirit when we take time with the Master to pray. “casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7). So get a good balance if you want to feel good spiritually, just like you have to do in the physical.  “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.” (Proverbs 11:21). “Divers weights are an abomination unto the Lord; and a false balance is not good.”(Proverbs 20:23)

Say this prayer if you want to be saved: Jesus, I want to know you, and to live forever in Heaven, I know I have made mistakes and done bad things- and I am sorry. Please forgive me. I know I don’t deserve it, but I accept your love and I accept you as my Saviour. I believed you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. Please come into my heart and life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and give me peace. Amen.
