Revelation Chapter 3

Verse 1-2) AND UNTO the angel of the church in Sar’-dis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. This is Jesus talking to the church in Sar’-dis. He is telling them they are spiritually dead, but there are some that are still alive but almost ready to die spiritually. “Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:60) This verse tells us that some people are spiritually dead even though they are physically alive, walking around like Zombies. Don’t let it happen to you. Stay in the Word and Prayer and witnessing. The best cure for personal or personell problems is the witnessing battel front!

Verse 3-4) Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. Thou hast a few names even in Sar’-dis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. Jesus will come as a thief in the night to those who are not prepared and are spiritually dead.

Verse 5) He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Some people use this verse to say you can lose your salvation. However we know that in the light of all the other scriptures that clearly state that you can not lose your salvation ( see the classes on Salvation, and all the scriptures that show you that you can not lose your salvation). Do you see how important it is to rightly divide the word of truth?( II Timothy 2:15). Revelation 12: 11 tells us that we over come by faith in the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God. At the Great White Throne Judgment when the Book of Life is opened, those whose names who are not found written in it are cast into the lake of fire.( Revelation Chapter 20). This can only happen to people who have rejected Jesus. The saved will not be standing before the Great White Throne of God to be judged, because we have already pleaded guilty, and received Jesus Christ as our Savior and his death on the cross as punishment for our sins, and have over come death and hell by faith in the blood of Jesus .

Verse 6) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. The Lord wants us to have spiritual ears to hear what he is saying to us.

Verse 7-13) And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, HE THAT HATH THE KEY OF DAVID, HE THAT OPENETH, AND NO MAN SHUTTETH; AND SHUTTETH, AND NO MAN OPENETH; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou has a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dewell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. He that hath and ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Jesus has only good things to say about this church in Philadelphia. They have kept his word and Jesus said he would keep them from the hour of temptation. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”  (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus said, that he would give a white stone with a new name written in it to everyone that over comes in Revelation 2:1. Some things in the scriptures we will just have to wait until we get to Heaven to get a complete understanding of. This is one of them.

Verse 14-19) And unto the angel of the church of the La-od-i-ce’-ans write; These things saith the A-men’, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would that thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Jesus was the first of all that God created.Jesus tells the church in La-od-i-cea to repent quickly, because they are lukewarm, and are rich with this worlds goods; but not spiritually rich in the eyes of God.

Verse 20) Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. This is a great salvation verse that you can use to lead somebody to the Lord.

Verse 21,22) To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Many times in the scriptures Jesus tells us to be overcomers and to overcome. We can’t do this by our own righteous works, but only by faith in his blood, and his love, and mercy, and grace. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” ( Titus 3:5). “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast.”  (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation = GRACE + FAITH + NOTHING ELSE ! ! ! Each of us should examine ourselves in the light of these different admonitions from Jesus, and ask the Lord to show us what applies to us.

Say this prayer to be saved: Jesus, I want to know you, and to live forever in Heaven, I know I have made mistakes and done bad things- and I am sorry. Please forgive me. I know I don’t deserve it, but I accept your love and I accept you as my Saviour. I believe you died on the cross for my sins ,and rose from the dead. Please come into my heart and life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and give me peace. Amen.
