Respect, Esteem, Recognition, Praise, and Glory are all words that go along with and define the term Honour. So many times the Bible teaches us something different than what the world teaches us. This is what Jesus said about Honour; “How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?” (John 5:44). Be careful if you seek after worldly honour from man, because you might get it. “And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.” (Psalm 106:15). In fact Jesus said, “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” (Luke 6:26).If you value the praise of men you better catch it quick while it is passing, because it is soon gone! You will find out to achieve this honour, and recognition that they usually want you to compromise your beliefs, and do, and teach things their way. You will find out that this type of honour does not give you the self-gratification that you are seeking after. “not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;” (Ephesians 6:6) “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1John 2:16,17). They even call it an “Honorary” Degree, or a P.H.D. (piled higher and deeper). Jesus was the ultimate example,“who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:” (Philippians 2:6-9). So be careful and don’t fall into the devils trap of seeking Honour from man.It won’t turn out like you think it will. Seeking Honour from God is a good thing to do, but you will probably be “despised and rejected of men” like Jesus was. (Isaiah 53). “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.” (John 15:18-21). “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” (Matthew 5:10-12). “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (2 Timothy 3:12).
Say this prayer if you want to be saved: Jesus, I want to know you, and to live forever in Heaven, I know I have made mistakes and done bad things- and I am sorry. Please forgive me. I know I don’t deserve it, but I accept your love and I accept you as my Saviour. I believed you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. Please come into my heart and life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and give me peace. Amen.
